Lauri Hamalainen is a teacher of violin, viola and orchestral music in the Northwest Music Institute of Helsinki, Finland. He works as head of the string department, is the author of Violin Friends music books for young music students and is an active member of the Esta Finland central board (European String Teachers Association). Lauri has graduated from Turku Conservatory, the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Hogeschool voor Muziek en Dans in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He has been playing viola in various chamber music ensembles and string quartets over twenty years. With Violin Friends music books Hamalainen wants to give young students the possibility to practice and perform music with other students right from the start of their instrumental studies. To achieve this he has researched various violin schools, repertoire lists and exchanged sheet music with many professional violin teachers in Scandinavia. He has worked with beginner string orchestras for many years and has published works like "Twelve Variations of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star by Mozart arr. for Piano Quartet", "11 Children's Songs arr. for Piano Quintet" and "Sea Scenery by L. Hamalainen for String Quartet" through Suomi Music.
