Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran is an English singer/songwriter born in 1991 (West Yorkshire). He is a man of many musical skills; he sings, raps, beatboxes and plays the guitar. He started singing at the age of 4, in church, and picked up the guitar at the age of 11. He began writing his own songs shortly after. At only 14, he released his first EP entitled The Orange Room. His next two albums were released by his 16th birthday. He then dropped out of school and a year later, moved to London in pursuit of his music career. During his time in London, he played live at open mics and small gigs every night (over 300 gigs overall). He found his sound through his playing. These years shaped him as a performer and artist. His sound became a mix of pop, folk, and hip-hop. As he slowly built his name, he started playing as an opening act for more established acts. Eventually, with a combination of online attention and persistence, he was asked to join Example on his UK tour and be his opening act. A year later, he released an EP called No. 5 Collaborations Project and shortly after he released The A team which was number three in the UK charts and sold over 57 000 copies. Followed with his single You Need Me, I Don't Need You, the song was released as the second single before the album would be released. It was number 4 in the charts. “+” was his first major label album release. The album did amazingly well, it was in the charts in the UK for months and sold over 100.000 copies within the first week. However, it was his album “x” that projected him to the top of the US charts. The album was a huge success overall. It peaked at number one in at least 15 different countries. Sheeran has also written a song called I See Fire for the soundtrack of the movie “The hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. The song was written and recorded within the same day. Final touches were made within the next 3 days. Ed Sheeran continues to win over more fans with his lyrical abilities and overall artist persona.
