David Bowie

David Robert Jones was a Singer-Singer and actor from England whose stage name was David Bowie. Born in 1947, he showed a strong talent for music at a very young age. In 1967, he released his debut album after signing a deal to Mercury Records. However, it wasn’t until 1969 that he released his first hit “Space Oddity”. The song was received well and was even used by BBC as a theme during the Apollo 11 moon landing. It was later released in the USA and received positive attention. In 1970, Bowie was propelled to further fame when he released his album The Man Who Sold the World. The album’s overall sound was heavier than any of his previous work and included a track about his mentally unwell brother titled “All the Madmen”. A year later, the artist released his next album Hunky Dory which included hits such as “Song For Bob Dylan”, “Andy Warhol” and “Queen Bitch”. In 1972, the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars revolutionised the rock music scene. Dressed in wild costumes, he performed on stage as his character Stardust. During this time, Bowie also worked on producing albums for Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. In 1973, David Bowie released the album Aladdin Sane including songs “The Jean Genie” and “Let’s Spend the Night Together” on which he collaborated with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. In 1974, the artist released David Live, and a year later, Young Americans which included a song called “Fame” that he wrote with Carlos Alomar and John Lennon. This same song was Bowie’s first number one single in America. In 1780, the album Scary Monsters came out and was critically acclaimed. Three years later, the artist released the album Let’s Dance which included the hit songs “China Girl” and “Modern Love”. The following years of his life, Bowie split his time in between music and cinema. In 2016, Bowie released his last album entitled Blackstar which was received very well by most music critics. David passed away in January of 2016. He will forever be remembered for innovating popular music and constantly changing his appearance.
