Born and raised in Jerusalem, Dan Bar Hava received his musical education from the Rubin Music Academy in Jerusalem and the Manhattan School of Music in NYC where he completed a Masters degree in Classical Composition and Jazz Performance. Dan's playing and compositions were performed nationally and internationally, reviewed by the New York Times, The St Louis Post Dispatch, and other publications. Currently Dan is teaching composition, film scoring, theory, and ear training at the Manhattan School of Music pre-college division (where he has been a faculty member since 1994). Past positions include theory and composition at the JCC on the Palisades Thurnauer School of Music where he also served as Theory Department chair from 1999 - 2005. the Elisabeth Morrow Summer String Festival and the Manhattan School of Music summer camp. Since his arrival to NYC, Dan has also been an active musician in the city's rich musical life with performances in some of the city's well-known venues including "The Bitter End", "Arlene's Grocery", and many others. Dan's CD releases include independently released "Ripe - Limited Addition" as band leader of Ripe, "Lydian Sunrise" under the "Rocket Science" label and independently released "Anthems - Ballads of the Promised Lands" as Dan Bar Hava of ripe. Dan believes that the tools of comprehension, understanding and reasoning are as important, if not more so, than the traditional tools of imitation, memorization and repetition; combined with his eclectic musical background, his teaching style blends traditional and contemporary elements to create a deep and comprehensive understanding of musical concepts, structures and materials. Dan has also composed film sound tracks, including: "Living for Tomorrow", a critically acclaimed documentary about the role of women in the early Kibutz movement and feature films "Falling Star" starring Adam Pascal, Tovah Feldshuh, and Natasha Lyonne and "The Empath" starring Dan Lauria.
