Alfonsina y el mar is a song composed by the Argentines Ariel Ramírez and Félix Luna, in homage to the poet of the same nationality Alfonsina Storni, who committed suicide, after suffering from terminal cancer, at dawn on October 25, 1938, at the go into the sea to drown, on La Perla beach in Mar del Plata. Although biographers assure that she jumped into the water from a breakwater, the legend is that Alfonsina went slowly into the sea. From Mar del Plata, a week before, Alfonsina sent two letters: one to her son, Alejandro, and a "Farewell Poem" * to the newspaper La Nación. Alfonsina y el mar is a very popular song throughout Latin America and Spain that has been performed by several renowned singers.
This arrangement was written for voice and piano accompaniment.
