This is my personal piano solo arrangement of Mickey, composed by Bill Conti for the 1990 film Rocky V.
Finding himself down and out overnight because of Paulie, Rocky goes back to Mighty Mick’s gym and remembers Mickey’s last words in a reverie filled with melancholy. Mickey—more than a father figure—was Rocky’s “angel”.
This soundtrack, no matter how many times I play it, always brings a tear to my eye, especially upon hearing Mickey’s powerful speech : “And nature is smarter than people think. Little by little we lose our friends, we lose everything, we keep losin’ and losin’ till we say: “What the hell am I livin’ around here for? I got no reason to go on…” But with you, kid, boy, I got a reason to go on. And I’m going to stay alive. And I will watch you make good. And I’ll never leave you…”
