Coldplay

Coldplay is an alternative rock band that formed in 1996. Originally from England, Chris Martin (singer/songwriter), Jonny Buckland (guitarist) and Guy Berryman (bassist) met at university. They started playing local clubs and a year later Will Champion (drummer) joined the band. They released two EPs independently before signing to Parlophone. Shortly after, they came out with the Blue Room EP and Parachutes their debut album (released in 2000). The album was a great success in Europe with hit singles such as Shiver, Yellow, and Trouble. The album also won them a Grammy. In 2002, the band released their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head. In the United Kingdom, this album was placed first in the album charts and was defined the 8th most sold album of the twenty-first century. It included the hits Clocks and The Scientist and also won them an another Grammy. After this success, they recorded Live 2003 while touring for A Rush of Blood to the Head. In 2005, they released an album called X&Y in which the band experimented with electronic elements whilst maintaining the alternative rock feel. The record received various reviews. Regardless, the album was a world success and achieved their first number one in the US. Fix You and Speed of Sound singles helped them become one of the most accomplished commercial rock bands in the world. In 2008, the band released Viva la Vida. The album was a departure in style as they included blues, distorted guitar, and new production elements. Next followed, Prospekt's March EP as well as the live compilation Left right left right left. In 2011, the band released Mylo Xyloto. The concept album was a number one in over 34 countries with major hit singles like Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall, Paradise, and Princess China. In 2014, the band released Ghost Stories which is an album driven by spirituality and a year later released A Head Full of Dreams. This latest album was the seventh they released and features many important personalities such as Beyonce and Barack Obama. It included the singles Adventure of a Lifetime, Hymn For The Weekend and Up&Up. Forever reinventing their style and genre in rock, Coldplay is one of the best selling groups of the 21st century.
